And climate can change surprisingly quickly with location. Even the difference between Central Florida and South Florida can change which orchids are easiest to grow outdoors. Cooler winter nights and seasonal temperature differences farther north may allow growers to accommodate orchids that struggle with South Florida's consistently warm conditions.
Indoor growing gives you more control, but your home's temperature still matters. Air conditioning may allow you to grow orchids that would struggle outdoors, while a warm room, sunny window, heater, or air-conditioning vent can create its own microclimate.
Instead of choosing an orchid and then fighting your climate, learn what temperatures your growing area naturally provides and choose orchids that are suited to those conditions whenever possible.
